Activity log
When a number jumps, the first question is usually “what did we do that month?”. The activity log answers it. Log the work you complete as you go, and the campaigns, announcements and events you run, and the monthly and quarterly reports list them next to the numbers. Campaigns, announcements and events are also marked on the charts.
The activity log is on every plan. It lives on the brand’s Activity tab, on the same timeline as your alerts.
Two kinds of entry
Section titled “Two kinds of entry”- Work completed is your task log: one line per thing you did, on the day you did it. “Rebuilt the Google Ads campaign structure”, “Published the new pricing page”, “Set up the welcome email series”. Work entries are listed in the report and feed the write-ups, but they don’t get markers on the charts.
- Campaign, Announcement, Event and Other are things that ran on particular dates and might move a number. They get numbered markers on the charts as well as a place in the list.
What it does in the report
Section titled “What it does in the report”- Work completed. A card at the top of the activity section lists the month’s work entries with their dates, channels and note, so the report shows what your team did that month without you rewriting anything.
- Numbered markers on the charts. Each entry gets a number. An amber marker with that number sits under every month it ran, on the 13-month charts of the channels it ran on.
- What happened this month. A section near the top of the monthly report lists the month’s entries with their dates, channels and note. Below it, Also marked on the charts lists the earlier entries behind the other markers.
- What happened this quarter. The quarterly strategy report (Strategic) lists the quarter’s entries and marks them on its charts.
- Context for the write-ups. The summary, learnings and analysis can say a change coincided with a logged campaign, announcement or event when it ran that month on that channel. They can also refer to work you completed when it is relevant to the channel, and they won’t recommend something the log shows you already did that month.
If nothing is logged in the 13 months a report covers, the section doesn’t appear and the charts have no markers.
Log work you completed
Section titled “Log work you completed”Owners, admins and members can add, change and delete entries. Viewers can see the log.
- Go to Marketing Intelligence > your brand > Activity tab and select + Log activity.
- Leave Type as Work completed.
- Type a short Title, for example “Rebuilt the Google Ads campaign structure”. This is what the report shows.
- The Date is today. Change it if the work was done earlier.
- Under Channels it relates to, select the channels the work was for. Leave them all unselected if it was general.
- Optionally, add a one-line Note.
- Select Add to the timeline.
Log each task as you finish it. The report for that month picks up everything logged with a date in the month.
Add a campaign, announcement or event
Section titled “Add a campaign, announcement or event”- Go to Activity tab and select + Log activity.
- Choose a Type: Campaign, Announcement, Event or Other.
- Type a short Title, for example “Spring sale” or “Sydney Boat Show”.
- Set the Start date. For something that ran over several days, set the End date too. Leave it blank for a one-day event.
- Under Channels it ran on, select the channels it ran on. Leave them all unselected if it applies to every channel, for example a product launch announced everywhere.
- Optionally, add a one-line Note, for example “20% off weekday hire, promoted on Instagram and Meta Ads”.
- Select Add to the timeline.
The entry shows in the report from the next report or re-run. To see it straight away, re-run the month.
Choosing channels
Section titled “Choosing channels”For campaigns, announcements and events, the channels you tick decide which charts get the marker. An entry ticked for Meta Ads and Instagram is marked on the Meta Ads and Instagram charts only. Search, Facebook and the rest stay clean.
| Channel | Charts it marks |
|---|---|
| Facebook views and engagements | |
| Instagram views and engagements | |
| LinkedIn impressions and engagements | |
| YouTube | YouTube views and engagements |
| TikTok | TikTok views, and TikTok Ads spend and clicks |
| Snapchat | Snapchat views, and Snapchat Ads spend and clicks |
| X | No markers (X has no trend chart). The entry still shows in the list. |
| Meta Ads | Meta Ads spend and link clicks |
| Google Ads | Google Ads spend and clicks (or views) |
| LinkedIn Ads / X Ads | LinkedIn Ads and X Ads spend and clicks |
| Search and website | Search impressions and clicks, and the Demand chart |
| Google Business Profile | Profile views and customer actions |
| Emails sent and clicks |
Tick only the channels the entry really ran on. The more precise the ticks, the more useful the markers.
Change or delete an entry
Section titled “Change or delete an entry”- Go to Activity tab. Select Your work at the top to show only your own entries.
- Find the entry on the timeline.
- To change it, select Edit, make your changes, then select Save changes. Select Cancel to leave it as it was.
- To delete it, select Delete, then Yes, delete. Select Keep to leave it.
Changes and deletions show from the next report or re-run. Reports that have already been generated don’t change.
How entries are numbered
Section titled “How entries are numbered”Each report numbers the campaigns, announcements and events in the months it covers, oldest first. Work entries aren’t numbered because they aren’t marked on the charts. The same entry can have a different number in a different report, because each report covers a different 13 months (or quarter). Within one report, the numbers on the charts always match the numbers in the list.
- Log as you go. It takes a few seconds when you finish a task or launch something, and saves rewriting a summary at the end of the month.
- Log the past too. You can add entries for earlier months, then re-run those months to see them on the charts.
- Keep titles short. They show in the report’s list and text.
- Use the brief for standing instructions only. The activity log is for things that happened on particular dates, including the work you did. The brief (Setup > Report) is the standing instruction that doesn’t change month to month, so don’t add this month’s tasks there. See The brief.
