Mobile-friendly site
A mobile-friendly site is easy to read and use on a phone without zooming or scrolling sideways.
Why it matters
Section titled “Why it matters”Google uses the mobile version of your site to decide how it ranks, even for people searching on a computer. Most local searches also happen on phones.
How to do it
Section titled “How to do it”- Use a responsive design, one that adapts to any screen size. Most modern themes and site builders do this.
- Show the same content on mobile as on desktop. Text, headings, images and structured data that only appear on desktop may as well not exist for Google.
- Don’t hide important content behind tabs or buttons that need tapping to load it.
- Make buttons and links easy to tap, with enough space between them.
- Make your phone number tappable so visitors can call in one tap.
- Keep pop-ups small. Full-screen pop-ups that cover the content are frustrating on a phone.
Check it worked
Section titled “Check it worked”- Open your key pages on your own phone and try to do what a customer would: find a service, read the page, call or send an enquiry.
- Test the page at PageSpeed Insights and look at the Mobile result.
