Google reviews

Google reviews are the star ratings and comments customers leave on your Google Business Profile.

Reviews are one of the first things people check before they call. The number and rating of your reviews also help how prominently you show in local search.

  • Ask every happy customer, ideally right after the job is done.
  • Make it easy. From your Business Profile, use the option to ask for reviews to get your short review link. Put it in emails, invoices, text messages and on a QR code.
  • Ask everyone the same way. Google doesn’t allow asking only customers you think will be positive.
  • Never pay or reward people for reviews, and don’t write reviews for yourself. Google can remove reviews or restrict your profile.
  • Reply to every review, quickly. Replies are public, so you’re writing for future customers too.
  • Keep it short and personal. Use their name and mention the job. Avoid copy-paste thank-yous.
  • Bad reviews: stay calm and polite. Acknowledge the problem, apologise where it’s fair, and offer to sort it out offline. Never share private details or argue.
  • Don’t use replies to sell.

To reply, sign in to your Business Profile on Google Search or Maps, open Reviews and select Reply.

Many B2B clients aren’t allowed to endorse a supplier in public. Ask them privately with a short survey instead. See Run a client NPS survey.
