AI search visibility
AI search visibility is part of the Professional and Strategic plans. Once a month we put the questions your buyers ask to six AI surfaces and read every answer for your business and each competitor / peer:
- ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, with web search on, so the answers are the ones a buyer gets today
- Google AI Overview (the AI box on the Google results page) and Google AI Mode, for Google Australia on a phone
The monthly report has an AI Search Visibility section, the Competitors / Peers table gains an AI share of voice column, and Setup > Watchlist > AI search visibility shows the latest reading question by question.
Every plan, including Essential, sees the website visits that AI assistants already send you, from your connected Google Analytics or Plausible.
Add the questions buyers ask
Section titled “Add the questions buyers ask”A question is a complete sentence a buyer would type into an AI assistant, such as who is the best jet ski hire company on the Gold Coast or is a Sea-Doo or a Yamaha better for a first jet ski. Professional checks up to 10 questions per brand, Strategic up to 40.
- Go to Marketing Feed > your brand > Setup > Watchlist > AI search visibility.
- Select Suggest. We read your website, keywords, Search Console queries and competitors / peers and write a starter set grouped by question type. Tick the ones you want and select Add selected.
- Or select + Add, type your own, one per line, pick a question type and select Add.
Each question has a type, which the report uses to show where you are strong and where you are invisible:
| Type | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Best for | The best provider or product for a need |
| Use case | Who or what to use for a specific job |
| Comparison | A vs B, or how options compare |
| Technical | A how, what or which question a buyer asks before choosing |
| Alternatives | Alternatives to a named competitor / peer or category leader |
| Brand direct | A question that names your business |
| Where to buy | Where to buy, hire or get a quote |
| Local | Any of the above with a place in the question |
Change a question’s type from the dropdown in the table. Remove a question with Remove. Keep the list steady from month to month: the trend only means something when the same questions are asked each time.
When questions are checked
Section titled “When questions are checked”Questions are checked on the 1st of each month, for the month just finished, so the results are in the report that lands on the 2nd.
To check straight away, select Check now. It takes a minute or two for every ten questions. A check taken mid-month covers the current month and counts against the fair-use re-run allowance. To see a fresh check in a report, re-run the month.
What’s measured
Section titled “What’s measured”For your business and each competitor / peer, across every answer:
- AI share of voice: the share of answers that name the business. The headline number.
- Unbranded share: the same, leaving out Brand direct questions, which name you by definition.
- Recommended first: the share of answers where the business is the top pick (listed first, called the best, or recommended most strongly).
- Your site cited: the share of answers that link to your website as a source. Your business only.
- Questions covered: how many of your questions get you named on at least one surface.
- Average place: where you sit among the businesses an answer names, when it names you.
The report also lists:
- Websites AI answers cite most: the sources the assistants lean on for your category. A listing, review or article on those websites is the most direct way to be named more often.
- Businesses AI recommends that you do not track: who wins the answers you are absent from, including businesses outside your competitor / peer list.
- Your pages AI answers cite: which of your pages the assistants already use.
Results by question
Section titled “Results by question”Under Setup > Watchlist > AI search visibility, select Show results by question to see every question against every surface: top pick, named #2 (named, in second place), absent or no answer (Google showed no AI Overview for that question). The last column shows who AI picked.
Hover an absent cell to see who the assistant recommended instead.
Fact sheet (Strategic)
Section titled “Fact sheet (Strategic)”On Strategic, the AI search visibility section has a Fact sheet: facts an AI answer should get right about your business, one per line, such as when you were founded, the areas you serve, or a certification you hold. Every monthly check reads each answer against the fact sheet, and the report lists any answer that contradicts it, so you can see where the assistants are getting you wrong and which page to fix.
What the report shows
Section titled “What the report shows”The AI Search Visibility section of the monthly report shows:
- AI share of voice, recommended first, your site cited and questions covered, with the change on the previous month
- bars comparing AI share of voice with each competitor / peer, and by AI surface
- a 13-month chart of AI share of voice and the recommended-first rate once there is more than one check
- a grid of question type by AI surface, so you can see at a glance where you are named and where you are not
- a table of every question against every surface, with who AI picked
- the websites AI answers cite most, the businesses AI recommends that you do not track, and your pages AI answers cite
- the fact sheet check (Strategic)
- website visits referred by AI assistants, by source, with a 13-month chart
- a short read: what the assistants say, who they recommend instead, and the one move that would get you named more often
The Competitors / Peers section gains an AI share of voice column and comparison bar, and the quarterly strategy report charts AI share of voice across the quarter.
A report for a month with no check shows the latest check on file and says which month it’s from.
AI referral traffic
Section titled “AI referral traffic”Visits that arrive from an AI assistant (chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com, copilot.microsoft.com, claude.ai and the like) are read from your connected Google Analytics or Plausible and shown in the same section on every plan: sessions this month, key events on those sessions, the top sources and a 13-month chart.
Alerts
Section titled “Alerts”Three alert types come from the monthly check. See Alerts, digest and Slack.
- AI share of voice fell by 10 points or more on the previous check.
- A competitor / peer passed you: a competitor / peer is now named in more answers than you, and was not last check.
- New websites cited: AI answers now cite a website they did not cite last check (information only, in the Monday digest).
Where the data comes from
Section titled “Where the data comes from”Answers are collected through a third-party data provider that queries each assistant’s own API, and Google’s AI surfaces from Google Australia on a phone. AI answers vary from one request to the next, so a single answer can differ from what you see yourself; the figures are a consistent monthly sample across the same questions. Compare months and compare businesses on the same figures rather than treating any one answer as fixed.
